Girl’s Night Out with a Twist

Red Phone Booth Speakeasy Lounge Atlanta

Girl’s Night Out is supposed to be an exciting departure from the everyday grind of work and responsibilities, but are the venues you visit getting a little stale? If you’re frequenting night spots with the same music, the same drinks and the same crowds, it’s time to mix things up and try a something new.

I say it’s time to go back to an era when flapper gear and swingin jazz serenaded the room well into the night. A time when sips were ordered in secret because Prohibition was the law of the land. Continue Reading…

Chevy Does Memphis

2018 Chevy Colorado Memphis Beale Street

In case you haven’t noticed… I’m a big fan of impromptu roadtrips. Just getting behind the wheel of a fun ride and hitting the open road for a weekend getaway is life! I especially love it when said vehicle gets me to my destination in style. Cause it’s not always where you go, but how you get there. Amiright!? So, for my latest adventure I packed my bags and headed West to Memphis, Tennessee. Dubbed as the Birthplace of Rock ‘n’ Roll and Home of the Blues, Memphis is known for it’s lively entertainment and iconic southern sights, and the 2018 Chevy Colorado was the perfect pickup to parade me around to take on the town. It’s Craft Beer. It’s Creative. Just, Don’t Call it Hotlanta!

Monday Night Brewing Don't Call It Hotlanta

If there’s one thing I’m passionate about in this world, it’s adventurous sips. Any refreshing way to cool my palate on a hot Atlanta afternoon is exactly the way I’d spend every day if I could.

And speaking of hot Atlanta; legend has it that if you utter the term “Hotlanta” within the city limits, you will hear a collective moan from  every ATL native for miles. Not quite sure how the city got branded Hotlanta; maybe it’s the sizzling social scene, or possibly the scorching summer temps. Who knows. One thing is for certain, that word is a capital CRINGE to folks around here. Continue Reading…

Roadtripping 30-A in the 2018 Chevy Traverse

There’s just something so fun about cruising around on a joy ride. Do you know what I’m talking about? The type of drive where you don’t have anywhere in particular to go—you’re just enjoying the scenery, the breeze in your hair, and the music soothing your worries. I don’t think enough people take the time to soak in their surroundings when cruising through beautiful locales, so when I was taking the scenic 30-A in Florida’s panhandle, I made sure to use all the perks of the 2018 Chevy Traverse to make the ride that much more incredible. South Walton Beaches Wine & Food Festival

South Walton Beaches Wine & Food Festival

Four days at the beach and more than 800 amazing wines at my disposal? Sign me up!!

This past spring, we found ourselves at the South Walton Beaches Wine & Food Festival near Destin, Florida. This action-packed event had all kinds of amazing wine activities and tastings—Spirits Row, the Rosé All Day Garden, Savor South Walton Culinary Village, and Nosh Pavilions were just a few of the highlights. There was also live entertainment, which kept everyone buzzing with a great time!

Of course, the buzzing could have also been from the 800-plus wines that were poured by wine industry experts.

Likely to no surprise, my favorite part of this festival was the Rosé All Day Garden! I couldn’t help myself—I had to have a mini photoshoot in this bubbly garden. Rose is my absolute favorite, and we got to try all kinds of rose wines in the garden. Needless to say, I was in pink wine paradise!!

What’s even better about this fabulous wine-centric event is that you get to help children in need while you enjoy. Proceeds from this year’s festival benefited the Destin Charity Wine Auction Foundation, which Wine Spectator magazine named a “Top 10 Wine Charity Auction!”

The gorgeous beach setting and incredible wine and foods we indulged in made for the most wonderful event. I am mostly definitely putting the South Walton Wine & Food Fest on my schedule for 2019! It comes to the Florida panhandle the last weekend of April each year, so mark your calendars if you love drinking wine and feeling fine.

New Brookhaven Blow Dry Bar is the Cherry on Top

Cherry Blow Dry Bar

Contributed by Chef Melissa Pelkey-Hass of The Front Porch Gourmet.

I am a chef.

I create deliciously wonderful meals for others, then come home exhausted, covered in olive oil, poultry particles in my hair and unidentified substances covering my clothes.  I live in crocs, chef’s pants, and black tank tops. If you open my closet, that’s pretty much what you’ll see. I eat cold Chef Boyardee straight from the can. With a spork. I hardly ever wear make-up and my hair is in a perpetual ponytail. In every sense of the title, I am true to form. I am a chef.

I say all of this to paint a very clear picture for you. I want you to fully understand the depth of the phone call I received from my good friend Nikka Shae, asking if I would cover a Grand Opening event for her at the Cherry Blow Dry Bar in Brookhaven. If I recall correctly, the call went a little something like this:

“Hey girl, it’s Nikka. I need a favor. I committed to an event and need for you to cover a second event for me if you can make it. It will be SO much fun and you will absolutely LOVE it!” Continue Reading…
