Sprouts Hosts Cooking Class with Food Network Star Chef Tregaye Fraser

Food Network Star & Chef Tregaye Fraser

Do you ever wonder what it would feel like to be on a food competition show? I feel like every time I turn on Food Network, I’m all riled up about all the creative dishes being whipped up.

Well I recently got to fulfill a fun dream of mine—and while I wasn’t on a food show, I sure as heck felt like it! (And that’s all that matters, right?) I recently had the amazing opportunity to learn how to cook some of my absolute favorite seafood dishes with Food Network Star Chef Tregaye Fraser. I, along with my squad, the Atlanta Food & Lifestyle Bloggers Society, got to meet the inspiring Chef Fraser. She won Season 12 of Food Network Star and has been on Guy’s Grocery Games, and her new show, The Kitchen Sink, is starting soon! It was awesome to meet her.

Cooking Scrumptious Seafood

To kick off the event, Chef Tregaye whipped up some of her crab cakes and shrimp grit cake, which had me melting at first sight (and smell). I am such a sucker for shrimp and grits, so these dishes were really speaking to me. 😉

Next up, Chef Tregaye let us try our own hands at cooking some seafood. She gave us plenty of tips on using seasonal ingredients and how to make seafood satisfying yet light and tasty—it was a fantastic learning experience. Especially since Sprouts supplied the fresh food fixin’s, I knew I was getting some great tricks on grilling up some killer #SummerGourmets!

She showed us how to prepare make a fish taco wrap, using two different types of fish: fresh cod and mahi mahi. The rest of the recipe included pico salsa and black bean and corn guacamole. I was really getting a feel for the chef life.

And then…. It was time to put my skills to the test!

Our Own Food Competition “Show”

The moment finally came. I was about to enter a food competition just like you see on the shows! I was a little nervous, but with the handy tips from Chef fresh in my mind, I felt more confident than ever. The group broke up into teams of three, and we had 30 minutes to prepare the same dish. The pressure was on! When all was said and done, my team placed second. Although we didn’t bring home the gold, I was still so proud! I had an awesome time getting to do this and learning so much from Chef Tregaye along the way.

There were giveaways throughout the event, and Sprouts gifted me a reusable shopping bag, a product, and gift card, which I’ve already put to good use 😉 ha!

I can’t express how thankful I am to Food Network and Chef Tregaye for teaching us these skills. Special thanks to Sprouts for hooking us up with all those yummy fresh fixin’s. They definitely made all the difference. And, huge hugs to the Atlanta Food & Lifestyle Bloggers Society for the invite.
