Few things are better than the warmth of summer, a romantic flick, and great company… Well, until you add in an old-fashioned picnic and country charm! This weekend my husband and I cozied up on a beautiful July evening for a special date night.
Perhaps you’ll be surprised to hear that our Chevy Tahoe was the perfect date night venue! We created our own private picnic in the back seat with scrumptious snacks courtesy of Target, along with blankets and pillows set by candlelight. Romance was in the sweet sweet southern air. Once we had everything situated and ready for our “watch party,” we flicked on The Longest Ride, a truly charming film based on the bestselling novel by Nicholas Sparks. Recently released on Blu-ray & DVD, The Longest Ride was the perfect date night movie for our pop-up picnic. We even watched the movie right from the headrests!
Munching on Chex Mix and buttery Orville Redenbacher popcorn with tasty Kernel Season’s (the ultimate movie must-haves by the way…), we were immediately captivated by the film. “The Longest Ride” follows the story of two star-crossed lovers – Luke, a former champion bull rider looking for a comeback, and Sophia, a college student about to start her dream job in the New York City art world – whose paths make their relationship near to impossible. It’s not until they meet a special character who adds a new spark to their love, and that’s when things get good!
Such a sweet story had me and hubby sipping our Southern sweet tea-filled Mason Jars with attention undivided. We were even lucky enough to receive an autographed copy of The Choice by Nicholas Sparks to complete our “picnic party pack.” And, I couldn’t think of a better place to catch a quick read than at the historic Kennesaw Mountain park.
If anyone knows romance, it’s Sparks. We were thrilled to have his work be a part of our special date night. Needless to say, it was a Southern-style success!
