New Brookhaven Blow Dry Bar is the Cherry on Top

Cherry Blow Dry Bar

Contributed by Chef Melissa Pelkey-Hass of The Front Porch Gourmet.

I am a chef.

I create deliciously wonderful meals for others, then come home exhausted, covered in olive oil, poultry particles in my hair and unidentified substances covering my clothes.  I live in crocs, chef’s pants, and black tank tops. If you open my closet, that’s pretty much what you’ll see. I eat cold Chef Boyardee straight from the can. With a spork. I hardly ever wear make-up and my hair is in a perpetual ponytail. In every sense of the title, I am true to form. I am a chef.

I say all of this to paint a very clear picture for you. I want you to fully understand the depth of the phone call I received from my good friend Nikka Shae, asking if I would cover a Grand Opening event for her at the Cherry Blow Dry Bar in Brookhaven. If I recall correctly, the call went a little something like this:

“Hey girl, it’s Nikka. I need a favor. I committed to an event and need for you to cover a second event for me if you can make it. It will be SO much fun and you will absolutely LOVE it!”

“Well, if it’s going to be that great, of course I’ll fill in for you! So what exactly is it?” I innocently asked.

“It’s the Grand Opening for Cherry Blow Dry Bar in Brookhaven!”

Figuring this was going to be a soft opening for a restaurant, or a seasonal menu review, it took me a few seconds to register her request. All I could muster at that point was, “WHAT is THAT?”

I was going to a blow dry bar. Me. The perpetual ponytail girl.

Several days later, as I walked into Cherry Blow Dry Bar, I quickly learned Nikka wasn’t kidding. This was definitely something to experience. We were greeted with delicious small bites from Marlow’s Tavern, and a glass of bubbles. You can’t go wrong with any of that. There were lines of chairs and stylists working diligently in the beautifully decorated salon.

I sipped my glass of bubbles and was then quickly whisked to the back of the salon for a relaxing shampoo and scalp massage.

Note to self: Scalp massages while shampooing are FANTASTIC. I need more of this in my life.

After the shampoo, I was given a book to choose a style. As I am self admittedly no expert on hairstyling unless it involves a scrunchie, I asked my stylist to choose. She choose a super cute style with loose curls. I was a bit apprehensive about curls, but thought why not, let’s go for it! I was SO glad I did!

When she finished the blow dry and style, I didn’t even recognize the person staring back at me from the mirror. It was a COMPLETE transformation.  My hair, was …GORGEOUS! In fact, my hair has NEVER looked this good!

I thanked my stylist profusely for the miracle she had created, and promised to return very soon. I walked, …no sashayed, out of Cherry Blow Dry Bar like a Vogue Covergirl Supermodel. As a matter of fact, I’m certain I heard “Who’s That Lady” playing in the background as I slowly tossed my perfectly curled hair in the breeze.

I am a chef. Typically sporting a perpetual ponytail. But there are some days where I just need to be pampered a little. Don’t we all? Those are the days I visit Cherry Blow Dry Bar …and let my perpetual ponytail down 😉

Now that sounds like a good day! For me I’m usually in a ponytail with yoga pants on dropping the kids off at school. I would love to have this done to my hair. You look absolutely gorgeous!

I am so jealous of all the blow dry bars I see people posting about! We don’t have many near us at all, but I’d totally love to be able to book an appointment now and again when I have an event … or even a date with the hubby!

Around here where I live we don’t have as fancy hair salons as you do. Looks like a wonderful experience and a great place to go.

I am all about a scalp massage and shampoo. As I have a perm and prefer to just go, I’ve never been into the rest. But I could have the massage andshampoo for days.

You have to treat yourself every now and then and come out those crocs and that ponytail. I love a good blowout every now and then. It’s a nice switch up from my whirls of curls.

This is my kind of place! I do need to get my hair done, and I love to eat. I could also use one of those drinks.

This would be so much fun! I have never done anything like this but it would be a lot of fun to go with some girlfriends and have a fun day.

I don’t drink but the idea of getting your hair done and munching on something delicious sounds absolutely wonderful. It sounds like your friend handed you a good time!

They just opened a dry bar near our house. I haven’t been to it yet. A scalp massage sounds amazing.
