In The Name of Gucci: A Memoir by Patricia Gucci

It’s no secret that I loooove fashion. There’s just something so encapsulating about the fashion world that you can easily get lost in. It’s a form of art, after all. So when you combine my love for fashion with my love for a great read, you know that I’m going to be one happy girl. 😀

Enter In The Name of Gucci: A Memoir by Patricia Gucci. Patricia’s memoir is the first book written by one of Guccio Gucci’s direct descendants. You see, Guccio is Patricia’s grandfather; no big deal, you  might say… Well, in her memoirs there are details about Gucci that have never been known before which makes this book and her story even more fascinating. Here’s a personal peak into of some of the deets of the book…

In The Name of Gucci: A Memoir by Patricia GucciFirst, Patricia’s birth was a secret. She was born a lovechild. To keep a scandal from happening, or worse, the imprisonment of her father, Patricia’s mother was whisked away to London to have the baby. She was then secretly brought back to Rome hidden from the eyes of the media, Italian authorities, and the Gucci family. Juicy… I know!

Patricia’s father, Aldo, and her mother, Bruna, are explained in detail in this book — and it feels like you’re getting a secret piece of family history no one else knows. If you’re a sucker for a good love story, this real-life tale will keep you on your feet, as Aldo continues to return to his love Bruna throughout the three decades he built his fashion empire.

The book all in all is a personal look into Aldo Gucci’s life behind-the-scenes that the public never saw. Aldo was largely responsible for Gucci’s international success, after all. So reading about his secret love life and other amazing details of this man’s life is nothing short of fascinating! In The Name Of Gucci is a bittersweet tribute to him from his daughter. We learn that Aldo had sweet side, but he ruled his family with an iron fist. A true Italian to the core.

Learning the personal histories behind the biggest names in fashion can be the most interesting thing to do! Not only do you get some fashion history, but you also learn that these people had hardships too. Not everything was bright lights and cameras — in fact, there’s a dark side to every story. And when you wrap a forbidden love story into the mix… Well, of course, I’m in.

From cover to cover you get an amazing story behind-the-story of one of the fashion industries most fascinating figures. If you’re like me and enjoy a great story AND some fabulous fashion history, you will love this book! In The Name Of Gucci was released in bookstores on May 10, so you should grab a copy for some juicy poolside summer reading! 😉

I love the Gucci brand and own a few pieces. Even bought my pre-schooler a pair of their sandals for the summer. However I know very little about their lives so this would be a good read for me.

I have to be honest in saying that I don’t know a great deal about Gucci, I don’t think I own a single thing “Gucci” but their products are beautiful. That being said, I always love learning about someone’s history, their roots, how they came to be who they are and their accomplishments. I also love seeing pictures from their past. This looks like a great read!
