Crafty Cocktails & Tastes of Thailand at Bangkok Station

Bangkok Station

Watch out, world! There’s a new mixologist in town… Would you be surprised it’s me? Don’t worry, I’m a little surprised myself! I never thought I’d be capable of mixing up delicious cocktail concoctions, but that all changed when I was invited to attend a Craft Cocktail Class and tasting at Bangkok Station in Buckhead.

Bangkok Station

Master mixologist Patrick showed the other participants and me how to create some special, “off-the-menu” craft cocktails. I’ll break them down for you one-by-one, so that you, too, can whip out these fabulous drinks and impress your guests when hosting your next get-together.

Sangria Floria:

2 oz Sauvignon Blanc
1 oz. St. Germain Elderflower Liquor
0.5 oz. Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice
0.5 oz. Simple Syrup
Club Soda
Fresh Fruits

Instructions: I first poured the Sauvignon Blanc, St. Germain and the lime juice into a wine glass. Next, filled the wine glass with ice, and to finish it off, I added fresh fruits and thoroughly stirred. That’s it!

Of course, I wanted to get a little fancy, so I garnished the drink with fresh fruits, mint spring and a lemongrass stalk. The Sangria Floria is a very sweet concoction with tons of flavor – perfect for sipping by the pool!

Pink Peony:

2 oz. Vodka
2-3 pcs Watermelon
2-3 Fresh Basil Leaves
1 pink Fresh Ginger
1 oz. Simple Syrup
0.5 oz. Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice
Fevertree Ginger Beer

Instructions: I absolutely loved this cocktail! First, I put the watermelon, basil leaves and the ginger into a shaker. Next I added vodka, simple syrup and lime juice. The next step was to muddle the mixture, but if you don’t have a muddler (not many of us non-professionals do!), you can use a fork. Once muddled, I added ice and “shook it like a salt shaker” as instructed (this, I could do!). Then I moved the mixture into a wine glass with ice and topped it off with the ginger beer. The finishing touch was a watermelon ball garnish and a basil leaf. It was sooo tasty!!!

Bangkok Station

Thanks to this class and Patrick’s expertise, I now have a couple yummy sips to show off at my next shindig. 😉  But that wasn’t all I got to experience during my time at Bangkok Station – I also had the chance to sample some of their fabulous Thai food! The owners are from Bangkok, Thailand, so their focus with the restaurant is to stay true to authentic Thai cooking. Luckily, I was able to experience this cultural cuisine firsthand!

The dishes I sampled are actually on the menu, unlike the craft cocktails. First, we enjoyed the Chicken Satay starter, which is grilled chicken with peanut sauce and cucumber salad – a fresh yet tasty appetizer. Then came the curry! People who have never tried curry might have misconceptions about what it might taste like, so I strongly suggest giving it a try! It just might surprise you (in the best way possible). We treated our taste buds to the Panang Curry, which was a mixture of coconut milk, bell pepper, kaffir lime leaf, and green bean. The side was a spicy basil tofu. All-around, the flavors were out of this world, and the dishes really take you on a mini trip around the world. 😛

Not only was the fare fabulous, but the Bangkok Station’s décor was also to die for. It was low-key and inviting yet elegant – the ideal atmosphere for chowing down on some delicious Thai bites and sipping a sweet cocktail.

I’d like to thank Megha for inviting me to this fantastic event; if it weren’t for her, I would not have the mixologist skills I have today! 😉 Also, as a treat for my readers: From now until April 30th, you can get 10% off your meal at Bangkok Station simply by mentioning #BSMixandMingle! Be sure to drop by Bangkok Station at 550 Pharr Rd in Atlanta’s Buckhead district and let me know which dish you tried!

Oh my goodness – that food looks great, you look great and the drinks sound great – I used to have fun with new recipes like this – but as I can’t have any sugar *much* in my system, I’ll have to wait for a taste tester when we’re out! Great post
